Biochar: A Green Solution for Sustainable Environmental Management

Biochar: A Green Solution for Sustainable Environmental Management

In the context of increasing global challenges posed by climate change, environmental pollution, and the depletion of natural resources, the need for sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions has become more urgent than ever. One promising approach that has attracted significant attention from both the scientific community and practitioners is biochar—a material that not only improves soil and water quality but also reduces greenhouse gas emissions, playing an important role in climate change mitigation.

This book consists of six chapters, providing a comprehensive and in-depth overview of the role of biochar in sustainable environmental management. The first two chapters present the broader environmental context and describe the fundamental properties of biochar, highlighting its potential for remediation and pollution control. Subsequent chapters explore the underlying mechanisms, including pollutant adsorption, improvements in soil and water quality, and the positive effects of biochar in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, particularly in agricultural systems. The final chapter analyzes key challenges related to production technologies, feedstock availability, economic feasibility, and the policy frameworks needed to promote the large-scale application of biochar in the near future.

This book is the result of the author’s extensive research on biochar in environmental and agricultural contexts. Its content is synthesized from three research projects funded by the National Foundation for Science and Technology Development (NAFOSTED), the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Science and Technology, and the research fund of the Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City. The findings presented are based on scientific studies published in reputable national and international journals. These studies have undergone rigorous peer review and demonstrate significant practical relevance for applying biochar in environmental protection and sustainable development.
